2024 WORKSHOPS AND STUDY SESSIONS
23rd MARCH – Day Workshop 10am – 4pm
BACKGROUNDS AND BRUSHES – Tutor : LISA DAVIS
In the first part of this workshop we’ll look at a few different techniques for creating interesting backgrounds which can be used to showcase your calligraphy. The aim is to create a small catalogue of samples that you can take away you and keep as a handy reference guide for any future pieces of work. Then, while our fabulous backgrounds are drying we’ll take a look at ‘Modern Brush Pen Calligraphy’ focusing on the lowercase alphabet we’ll work through exercises and practice the basic techniques of using felt tipped brush pens.

22nd JUNE – Day Workshop 10am – 4pm
BLOOMING LETTERS – Tutor : Els Van Den Steen
In this workshop we create colourful letter designs that are perfect on their own or can be used as a decorative letter as part of a larger calligraphic piece.
We design our own letters, exploring mono-line and broad-pen letter variations. Next, we provide our letters with a colourful background using watercolours. Our colour palette is inspired by wildflowers and flowers from our own garden.
The workshop offers an opportunity to develop confidence in letter design & designing decorative backgrounds, colour mixing & matching, and selecting colours that work well together, all in a fun way.
